General Election Hustings – Sunday 23 June

There will be a hustings in Wantage Parish Church on Sunday 23 June at 4pm.

All the event details are here, including how to submit questions: https://kingsgrove-residents.co.uk/go/hustings

HorNet and estate service charges

A lot of people on Kingsgrove are freeholders, in that they own their own property. Some freeholders, not just in Kingsgrove, object to having to pay an estate service charge on top of council tax etc and would prefer it if local councils would “adopt” all the shared open spaces.

There is a campaign group, HorNet, working to abolish service charges for freehold properties.

Policy briefing document

They have created a policy briefing document that can be used to start conversations with candidates standing for election to Parliament. You can find it here: https://www.homeownersrights.net/press-releases/policy-briefing-2024/

It is worth noting that there are already plans to further help leaseholders with unfair service charges (very necessarily) but nothing for freeholders. It is worth remembering, just in case candidates start talking about leaseholders and forget about freeholders.
