I would hope that most people would agree that Kingsgrove is a pleasant place to live.
Unfortunately incidents, such as those involving thefts from cars last week, do happen occasionally. Understandably distressing as these are, it is important to ensure that they are reported to the appropriate authorities. Hopefully this will lead to a satisfactory conclusion in each instance but it also provides data for these authorities when they are determining the best places to deploy resources.
In the case of the incidents that took place last week, those ‘appropriate authorities’ are the police.
The following message is from the managing agent for Kingsgrove, Preim, in response to residents contacting them with their concerns.
Community Safety and Reporting Guidance
We’re aware that recent incidents in the local area have understandably caused concern among residents. It’s clear that many members of the community are keen to respond proactively, and we’re pleased to see constructive discussions taking place through the Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG), informal neighbourhood watch efforts and resident networks.
However, it’s important to clarify the roles and responsibilities around these issues.
Criminal matters, including drug activity and car crime, fall strictly within the remit of the police. As managing agents, Preim is not authorised to investigate or intervene in such incidents, and we do not have enforcement powers. We always recommend that any suspicious or criminal behaviour is reported directly to the police through the appropriate channels (101 or 999 in an emergency), or via the Thames Valley Police website.
That said, when concerns are raised by residents, we do liaise with local police officers. Following last week’s steering group meeting, we’ve contacted the local policing team to seek an update and to explore how they may be able to support the community further.
In cases where antisocial behaviour involves a resident and falls within our remit, we can, and do, take appropriate steps.
We remain committed to supporting Kingsgrove residents within the scope of our role, and will continue to facilitate communication with external agencies where appropriate.
If we receive any further updates from the police, we will share them with residents in due course.
