McCarthy Stone appealing against planning refusal for retirement apartments

Further to the article linked below, we have been notified that McCarthy Stone have formally appealed the decision to reject the planning application for the retirement apartments.

This means it will go to the Planning Inspectorate for a final decision.

Reason for refusal of application

Please remember that the application was only refused on the grounds of the lack of a suitable S106 contribution from McCarthy Stone, i.e. McCarthy Stone refused to pay money to the council to fund affordable housing.

The exact details can be found in the Delegated Report.pdf that has been published on the application.

No other reasons were taken into consideration when making the decision to refuse the application.

At the most recent Crab Hill Development Forum, Councillors Jenny Hannaby and Andy Crawford continued to argue for an alternative to the apartments, something more in keeping with the original idea of a pub. However, they were met with the same arguments as ever, namely no-one is interested in buying the plot, building and running a pub.

One interesting point was raised about the pub on the Great Western Park development in Didcot. It required a £3 million investment.

Next steps

As you can likely imagine, things become a little more complicated for those that want to contribute their comments to the appeal process.

This file is a copy of the letter that was sent to everyone that commented on the original application and contains information as to how comments can be submitted.
